Taking on policies that will support affordable housing development and displacement prevention
The first two weeks at the Nebraska Legislature have been eventful for us at Spark! Over 800 legislative bills were introduced by the senators ranging from proposals about education, taxes, and more. Spark has decided to prioritize advocating for affordable housing development and displacement prevention policies. We have partnered with 30+ stakeholders to develop several pieces of policy that would address the lack of affordable housing options across the state.
This package of bills would accelerate the production of affordable housing across Nebraska to address the housing crisis that is limiting economic growth and our collective ability to enjoy “the good life.” The bills would allocate new, one-time funding to existing housing programs operated by the Department of Economic Development and make changes to allow these funds to flow faster and produce more affordable housing in both rural and urban areas. Together, these bills will support Nebraska’s competitiveness, community well-being, and economic opportunity.
