Apply for Spring 2023 Developer Academy

Spring-DA-Applications-Open

The time has COME! The application for the 2023 Spark English-language Developer Academy is now OPEN.

Here is the application link!

What exactly does that mean? If you are interested in addressing the lack of affordable housing in disinvested areas of Omaha OR designing new developments within Omaha’s urban core by becoming a real estate developer, then we encourage you to consider applying!

Before applying, you should understand some of the responsibilities of the role. A real estate developer’s job could include:

  • Scouting land for projects
  • Renovating existing buildings
  • Managing construction details
  • Negotiating deals
  • Funding projects
  • Obtaining permits
  • Attending public hearings to get public approvals
  • Overseeing projects from start to finish
  • Dreaming up and executing real estate projects

Does this align with your future goals? We hope so.

There is no single path to becoming a real estate developer, but certain areas of expertise tend to funnel into the profession. Construction, architecture, law, finance, urban planning, and established real estate professionals can all get into real estate development with the proper knowledge and preparation.

This is where Spark comes in. Spark, in partnership with the National Development Council, and with advice and support from a top-notch advisory team, offers the Spark Developer Academy, an intensive training and networking opportunity for emerging real estate developers who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), women, and gender-expansive individuals.

Our sessions provide participants with the skills needed to understand the development process, calculate real estate financials such as proformas and cash-flow analysis, and network with local industry leaders.
